Do and Learn

                                                            Experiment Time

Let’s do a simple experiment to observe diff erent forms of matter using water. Do it with an
                    elder.

What to Do What you observe

                    • Take an ice cube and observe it.
Does it have a fi xed shape and size? Yes No
Can you hold it in your hand? Yes No

                    • Hit it with any hard object.
Does its shape change? Yes No

                    • Leave the ice cube in a container outside the freezer for some time. It will change to water.
Does it have any shape or size now? Yes No

Does it fl ow if you try to hold it in your hand? Yes No
                    • Hit water with any hard object.

Does its shape change? Yes No
                    • Pour it into another container.

Does it take the shape of the new container? Yes No
                    • Your teacher will heat the water in a kettle. Observe the steam which is a gas.

Does it have a shape or size? Yes No
Does it mix in the air? Yes No

This shows that ice has a fi xed shape and size and
can be held. Thus, it is a ____________. Water
does not have a fi xed shape and size, and it takes Project Time
the shape of the container in which it is poured.
Thus, it is a ____________. Steam also has no 1. Collect and paste pictures of
fi xed shape or size and mixes in the air. Thus, it materials under the diff erent
is a ____________. 2. We know that water is essential
forms of matter on a chart paper.

for us. We need to save it to a
Observation Corner and write a slogan on how to
                                                                                maximum extent. Work in pairs

                                                                               save water. Decorate it and
Observe things at your home and display in your classroom.
                    enlist them under solids, liquids
                     and gases in your scrapbook.
