Uses of Matter in Our Daily Life

You have already learnt that everything around us is matter. Solids, liquids and

gases are used for various purposes in our daily lives due to their properties. Some
of their uses are mentioned below.

Solids are a basic part of our life and are
used by us in many ways. For example,

the food that we eat, the house where
we live, the clothes that we wear and

the things that we use to build our
house are all solids.

Useful solids

We know that water is essential for the survival of

living things. We cannot live without it. Water is

the most important liquid on earth. We need water
for most of our activities like drinking, bathing,
cleaning, cooking and watering plants. We also use

other liquids such as oil, milk, tea, coff ee and fruit

juices regularly.

Useful liquids

Air is a mixture of gases. Gases are invisible
but are essential for us. We breathe in oxygen

that is released by the plants. The carbon
dioxide we breathe out is used by plants.

Gas is needed to fi ll many things such as
balloons, tyres and footballs. Gas is also used

by us to cook food. We use CNG as fuel in our
vehicles. Uses of gas

Now you know that all forms of matter are important for our living. We cannot
imagine our life without them.
