wool, clothes, fl owers and paper are some examples of soft-solids.

                    • Hard solids cannot be bent or scratched easily.

                    • The shape of a hard solid does not change when pressed hard or when moved
                        from one place to another.

                      ACTIVITY TIME

Collect any 10 solid substances that you see around. Try to bend, squeeze or break
them one by one. Based on the observations, list the substances under hard or soft
                       solids category.

                         Substances collected:

                    Properties of liquids

                    • Liquids do not have a fi xed shape. They take the shape of the container in
                        which they are poured.

                    • Liquids fl ow easily.

                    • A liquid can be poured and spilled while

                        a solid cannot.

                    • Some examples of liquids are water, milk,
                        fruit juice and oil.
