Let’s Do
Classroom Session
1. Why is it that poor and underdeveloped countries like South Sudan and Burundi have
extremely high population growth rates while highly developed nations like Japan and Spain
have very low and even negative population growth rates? Why is the population growing
rapidly in countries that cannot provide basic necessities to their existing population? Have a
discussion in class on this topic.
2. An international food-relief agency has asked you to prepare a report to help make the food
distribution in a certain area threatened by famine, more effi cient, for example, in Odisha. Will
you use maps of population distribution (dot maps)? What role will the scale play in your
presentation? Prepare a report as per the population distribution. Take help from the
Internet.
