When we look around, we fi nd ourselves surrounded by a
lot of things. We can touch things like trees and things like
air that cannot be touched. All these things have diff erent
proper es and are diff erent from each other. However, they
all have one common thing. They all are made up of ma er.
Ma er is anything that occupies space and has mass. All
substances whether living or non-living are composed of
ma er. Everything in the universe is composed of ma er.
Ma er is composed of extremely small par cles and it
exists in both natural and man-made states.
