P. 141
Now subtract 98 cm from 162 cm.
162 cm – 98 cm = 64 cm. Write 64 under cen metres.
Step 3: Subtract the metres.
72 m – 45 m = 27 m. Write 27 under metres.
So, the diff erence between the given lengths is 27 m 64 cm.
Example 7: Two ropes of length 83 m 25 cm and 60 m 70 cm are joined together. Find the
total length of the joined rope.
Calcula on
Solu on: Length of one rope = 83 m 25 cm m cm
8 3 2 5
Length of another rope = 60 m 70 cm
+ 6 0 7 0
Total length of two ropes 1 4 3 9 5
= 83 m 25 cm + 60 m 70 cm
= 143 m 95 cm
So, the total length of the joined rope is 143 m 95 cm.
Example 8: Ayesha bought a ribbon that measures 112 cm. She cut a piece measuring
91 cm from it. How much ribbon is le with her now?
Solu on: Total length of ribbon bought by Ayesha = 112 cm
Calcula on
= 1 m 12 cm
112 cm
Length of ribbon cut by Ayesha = 91 cm – 91 cm
Length of ribbon le = 112 cm – 91 cm = 21 cm 21 cm
So, Ayesha has 21 cm of ribbon le with her.
