(c) 69 m 54 cm from 146 m 71 cm (d) 127 m 40 cm from 236 m 28 cm
(e) 3 km 275 m from 6 km 709 m (f) 20 km 698 m from 37 km 341 m
3. Solve the following word problems.
(a) Ramaiya made two table covers of lengths 275 cm and 165 cm, respec vely.
Find the total length of the table covers.
(b) A tailor has a cloth of length 6 m 50 cm for s tching a shirt and a trouser. If he

(d) If 7 m 75 cm ribbon is cut from a 19 m roll of ribbon, what is the length of the
remaining ribbon?
Multiplication and Division of Lengths
To mul ply or divide lengths, we convert the bigger units to smaller units and then mul ply
or divide by the given number.
Example 9: Mul ply 4 m 33 cm by 5.
Solu on: Step 1: Convert 4 m 33 cm to cm.
4 m 33 cm = (4 × 100) cm + 33 cm 1 1
4 3 3
= 400 cm + 33 cm = 433 cm
× 5
Step 2: Mul ply 433 cm by 5.
2 1 6 5
433 cm × 5 = 2,165 cm
Step 3: Convert 2,165 cm to m and cm. 2,165 cm = 21 m 65 cm
So, the product obtained is 21 m 65 cm.
Example 10: Divide 8 km 800 m by 5. 1760
Solu on: Step 1: Convert 8 km 800 m to m. 5 8800
–5
8 km 800 m = (8 × 1,000) m + 800 m
38
= 8,000 m + 800 m = 8,800 m –35
Step 2: Divide 8,800 m by 5. 30
8,800 m 5 = 1,760 m – 30
Step 3: Convert 1,760 m to km and m. 00
– 00
1,760 m = 1 km 760 m
0
So, the quo ent obtained is 1 km 760 m.
