Ways to improve the surroundings

We know that our surroundings face various environmental problems caused by

pollution and human activities. Therefore, it has become necessary for us to save
and improve our surroundings. This can be done in many simple ways which are
as follows.

• Avoid using polythene bags. Choose reusable bags such as cloth or cane bags
for shopping and other purposes. This is because recycling of polythene is too

expensive and when it is thrown as garbage, it only pollutes the land.

• Do not spit anywhere outside like on roads and on walls. Spitting in public
places causes damage to the environment. Always spit in wash basins.

• Use dustbins to throw any kind of wastes. This will prevent littering, pollution
and spread of germs.

• Plant as many trees as you can. This will help in keeping air clean and fresh.

• Repair leaking taps and faucets. Collect rainwater for use in gardening, cleaning
and washing. Do not throw wastes in waterbodies. Keep them clean.

• Use renewable sources of energy at home and other places.

• Create awareness among people about the importance of clean surroundings.

• Keep learning and developing good habits to improve your surroundings, and

lead a healthy living.
