5. A floor is covered with identical square tiles. There are 10 tiles along the length of the floor and
8 tiles along its width. What is the shape of the floor?

Objective: To learn about rhombus and its properties

Material required: White sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler
Demonstration:
Step 1: Take a rectangular sheet of paper and fold it in the middle to form a crease.
Step 2: Fold the paper once again to get 4 layers.

Step 3: Draw a line AB as shown in the figure and fold this 4 layered paper along this line.

Step 4: Unfold the paper to its original shape. Can you locate a rhombus? Mark its vertices
as P, Q, R and S.

Observation: P
(i) Is PQ = QR = RS = SP? S O Q
(ii) Is OP = OR, OS = OQ?

(iii) Is PR perpendicular to SQ? R
State the properties of rhombus which can be inferred from the above observations.
