• Square: A square is a rectangle in which a pair of
                       adjacent sides are equal.

                    • Rhombus: A rhombus is a parallelogram having a pair of equal adjacent
                       sides.

                    • Trapezium: A quadrilateral having a pair of parallel sides is called a trapezium.

                                                (i) Isosceles trapezium (ii) Right trapezium

                    • Kite: A quadrilateral having two pairs of equal adjacent sides and
unequal opposite sides is called a kite.

                                                             EXERCISE 17.2

                      1. Write True or False.
                         (a) The adjacent sides of a square are equal in length.

                         (b) All the sides of a parallelogram are of equal length.
                         (c) The opposite sides of a trapezium are parallel.
                      2. Give reasons for each of the following.

                         (a) A square can be thought of as a special rectangle.
                         (b) A rectangle can be thought of as a special parallelogram.

                         (c) A square can be thought of as a special rhombus.
                         (d) Square is also a parallelogram.

                      3. Draw a rough sketch of a regular hexagon. Join any four vertices of the hexagon to make a
rectangle. Can you also draw a trapezium by joining vertices of the hexagon?
                      4. What is the sum of opposite angles of a square?

                      5. What is the difference between any two adjacent angles of a rectangle?
                      6. In a parallelogram PQRS if PQ = 5 cm, then what is the measure of RS?
                      7. Two sides of a kite measure 15 cm and 27 cm. Find the measures of its remaining sides.
