Framing Word Problems on Division Calculation
Example 22: Frame a word problem for 6,250 ÷ 25 and solve it. 250
25 6250
Solution: If 25 school bags cost ` 6,250, how much will each bag cost? – 50
Cost of 25 bags = ` 6,250 125
– 125
Cost of 1 bag = ` 6,250 ÷ 25 = ` 250
0000
So, the cost of 1 bag is ` 250. – 0

Word Problems including both Multiplication and Division Top Tip
Example 23: A baker sells 2,820 buns in 12 days. How many We are given for
buns will he sell in 26 days? more and have to find
for 1, so we divide.
Solution: Number of buns sold in 12 days = 2,820
Number of buns sold in 1 day = 2,820 ÷ 12
Calculation
= 235 1
235
2 3
Number of buns which can be sold in 26 days 12 2820 235
= 235 × 26 – 24
42 × 2 6
= 6,110 1
– 36 1410
So, the baker can sell 6,110 buns in 26 days. 60
+4700
– 60
0 6110
Exercise 4.4
1. Estimate the quotient by rounding off each number to the nearest 10. Also, find the
actual quotient and remainder.
(a) 416 13 (b) 977 15 (c) 755 18 (d) 481 61
(e) 8,844 44 (f) 9,452 91 (g) 7,082 37 (h) 9,301 56
2. Estimate the quotient of the following to answer the question.
(Hint: Round off the numbers to the nearest 10.)
(a) Aman types 87,044 words in 22 days on his typewriter. Estimate the number of words
he will type per day.
(b) A school needs to purchase 945 drawing files for the school students. If the drawing
files come in bundles of 14, estimate the number of bundles the school needs to
purchase.
(c) Abhinav organized his sister’s birthday party. If he invited 72 guests and ordered 143
muffins for the party, estimate the number of muffins each guest will get.
(d) 1,479 guests are invited for a wedding. If 40 guests can be accomodated in one block
