Solution: Step 1: Multiply the digit at the ones place by 2. 4 3 × 2 = 6

3 × 2 = 6
Write 6 at the ones place of the product.

Step 2: Multiply the digit at the tens place by 2. T O T O

4 × 2 = 8 4 3 × 2 = 8 6
Write 8 at the tens place of the product.

So, 43 × 2 = 86.

Vertical Multiplication

In vertical multiplication, we place the numbers one below the other with a multiplication
sign before the second number. The product is written below the second number.
Example 7: Multiply 32 by 3. T O

Solution: Step 1: Multiply the digit at the ones place by
3 and write the product under the ones 3 2
place. × 3

3 × 2 = 6 6
Step 2: Multiply the digit at the tens place by T O
3 and write the product under the tens 3 2

place.
× 3
3 × 3 = 9
9 6
So, 32 × 3 = 96.
