Human Resources
eople are human resources and the
Pactivity of managing people is called
human resource management. We refer to
people as a resource because ideally a resource
is a source that can be used or applied for the
betterment, improvement or the convenience
of man and his various functions. Th us,
humans themselves are a resource as they
are productive for a country and help in
the growth of the country’s Gross Domestic
Product (GDP). Th e GDP of a country rises
due to the proper utilisation of a person’s
productive skill and ability.
Th ere are diff erent kinds of resources
available for the use of humans. But of
all these resources, man himself is the
most signifi cant. Human beings, when
imparted with proper knowledge, skills and
technological understanding, can make the
best use of natural resources by transforming
any physical material into a valuable resource.
Th erefore, people themselves are considered
to be an important resource.
In this regard, we can say that India is a very
resourceful country because it is brimming
with a large population, 65 per cent of which
are between the ages of 25 and 35.
Th e population of any country can become a
resource when there is an investment aimed
at its betterment. Th is investment is done in
the form of education, vocational training and
synchronised: coordinated

medical care. Human resource is much more
powerful than any other resource as humans
can be educated, healthy and determined.
Just as natural resources are not evenly
distributed in the world, human resources
are also not synchronised and not evenly
distributed.
Human resources are of an irreplaceable value to a country.
Population Distribution
Population is the number of people living in a
particular area at a particular time. People are
not distributed evenly across the Earth. Both
physical and human factors are responsible
for the distribution of population. Type of
relief, soil and climate determines the density
of population of any area. Areas with low,
fl at lands and a temperate climate tend to be
densely populated. On the other hand, there are
places which are sparsely populated because the
climate there might be very hot or very cold, the
terrain might be mountainous or be a desert or
the environment might be hostile to people.
