Let’s Recall

                     • Asia experiences a variation in climatic conditions across regions on account of its many
oceans, mountains, deserts as well as the varied wind patterns.
                     • The monsoon plays a very prominent role in Asia. The summer monsoon and the winter
monsoon determine the climate for most of India and South-East Asia.
                     • Factors that infl uence the climate of Asia are its latitudinal extent, distance from the sea,
alignment of mountain ranges and winds and ocean currents.
                     • We fi nd the following types of climatic zones in diff erent parts of Asia—tundra, temperate,
monsoon, equatorial, desert, temperate grasslands, Mediterranean and taiga.
                     • The main types of vegetation seen in Asia are tundra, taiga, deciduous, tropical deciduous,
                         desert and equatorial.
