That was a very happy breakfast though the girls didn’t get
any of it. When they went away, leaving the comforted family
behind, there wasn’t anyone happier than the hungry little girls

who gave away their breakfast and contented themselves with
bread and milk on Christmas morning.

MEG : (setting the presents out for their mother) That’s loving our neighbour
better than ourselves and I like it.
