Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transmitted in a fi xed amount of time. It is expressed
in bits per second (bps), kilobytes per second (kbps) and megabytes per second (mbps).
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Internet service providers (ISPs) are organisations that provide Internet connection to the
users. The users need to pay for the service of any company. Airtel, Reliance, BSNL and VSNL
are some examples of ISPs.
Website
Website simply known as site, is a collection of web pages that usually consists of a home
page and many related pages along with the hyperlinks. The pages of a website are written
in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). A website can be managed by an individual or an
organisation.
Web Portal
Web portal or simply portal is a specially designed website that often serves as the single point
of access for information. Web portal provides the web pages to the user to fi nd the desired
information. It helps in search navigation, personalization, notifi cation and information
integration. Nowadays most of the search engines like Google and Yahoo act as web portals.
Web Page
Web page is a document containing single unit of information that is available via World Wide
Web (WWW). It may contain text, graphics, images, pictures, sounds, videos, animations,
hypertext, hypermedia and hyperlinks.
Home Page
Home page is the fi rst page of a website. It contains the information about a website and also
provides links to the other pages.
Link
Link is a channel or a line that connects two devices and transmits the data among them.
Hyperlink
A user can jump from one page to another by clicking on the underlined or highlighted words
called hyperlinks. They are used to connect one page with the another.
Hypertext
Hypertext is the text that contains connections to other documents within the text besides the
regular text. It is actually a way of presenting information on the web.
