(c) 96 dL 26 mL by 74 (d) 48 m 16 cm by 49
(e) 6 g 678 mg by 16 (f) 14 L 369 mL by 18
4. Express the following measures in decimal form and then divide.
(a) 523 kg 1 hg 3 dag 8 g by 86 (b) 936 km 312 m by 39
(c) 46 kL 150 L by 25 (d) 74 m 8 cm by 16
(e) 67 kg 375 g by 25 (f) 591 L 736 mL by 68
5. Solve the following.

(b) By how much is 34.26 kg more than 4 kg?
(c) Find the sum of 19 L 450 mL, 61 L 250 mL and 43 L 750 mL.

Word Problems on Metric Measures
Example 13: Pari made fruit cream using 500 g apples, 600 g grapes, 450 g pomegranates and
250 g bananas. How much fruit did she use?
Solution: Quantity of apples used = 500 g = 0.5 kg
Calculation
Quantity of grapes used = 600 g = 0.6 kg 1 1
0 . 5 0 kg
Quantity of pomegranates used = 450 g = 0.45 kg 0 . 6 0 kg
Quantity of bananas used = 250 g = 0.25 kg 0 . 4 5 kg
+ 0 . 2 5 kg
Total quantity of fruits used to make fruit cream 1 . 8 0 kg
= 0.5 kg + 0.6 kg + 0.45 kg + 0.25 kg
= 1.80 kg
So, Pari used 1.80 kg of fruits to make the fruit cream.
Example 14: Hema bought 24 L 500 mL of milk for a function. However, only 19 L 350 mL of milk
was used. What quantity of milk was not used?
Solution: Quantity of milk bought = 24 L 500 mL
= 24.500 L Calculation
114 4 10
Quantity of milk used = 19 L 350 mL 2 4 . 5 0 0
= 19.350 L – 1 9 . 3 5 0
0 5 . 1 5 0
So, 5.150 L of milk was not used.
