P. 162
Example 4: Convert 4 hg to dg.
Solution: 4 hg = 4 × (10 × 10 × 10) dg
10 10 10
= 4 1,000 dg = 4,000 dg
hg dag g dg
Example 5: Convert 6,459 g to dag, hg and kg.
Solution: We know that
1 1 1
1 g = dag, 1 g = hg and 1 g = kg.
10 100 1000
6495
6,495 g to dag = dag = 649.5 dag
10
1 6495
6,495 g to hg = 6,495 × hg = hg = 64.95 hg
100 100
1 6495
6,495 g to kg = 6,495 × kg = kg = 6.495 kg
1000 1000
So, 6,495 g = 649.5 dag = 64.95 hg = 6.495 kg.
Example 6: Express 7 kg 3 hg 2 dag 7 g in kg using decimal notation.
Solution: 7 kg 3 hg 2 dag 7 g in kg
1 1 1
We know that 1 hg = kg, 1 dag = kg and 1 g = kg.
10 100 1000
3
3 hg = kg = 0.3 kg
10
2
2 dag = kg = 0.02 kg
100
7
7 g = kg = 0.007 kg
1000
Thus, 7 kg 3 hg 2 dag 7 g = 7 kg + 3 hg + 2 dag + 7 g
= 7 kg + 0.3 kg + 0.02 kg + 0.007 kg = 7.327 kg
So, 7 kg 3 hg 2 dag 7g = 7.327 kg.
