Since the integral part of each decimal number is the same, we compare the
decimal part to arrange the given numbers in ascending order.
                                  Thus, 7.015 < 7.030 < 7.140 < 7.284 < 7.900

                               Exercise 7.2

                      1. Separate the like decimals.

                            (a) 7.21, 14.6, 28.04, 100.9 (b) 19.04, 13.75, 120.2, 79.8
                            (c) 1.02, 2.348, 6.07, 21.186 (d) 0.24, 0.591, 1.26, 3.009
                      2. Change the following unlike decimals to like decimals.

                            (a) 64.48, 92.4, 7.175, 128.3 (b) 3.1426, 19.07, 25.8, 41.002
                            (c) 59.08, 617.019, 28.1026, 88.5 (d) 14.03, 256.9, 74.215, 439.1764

                      3. Put the correct sign >,< or =.
                            (a) 0.59 0.5 (b) 0.008 0.14 (c) 0.09 0.76

                           (d) 3.880 3.088 (e) 1.234 1.234 (f) 0.125 0.307

                            (g) 2.905 2.930 (h) 0.04 0.009 (i) 7.326 7.345

                      4. Arrange the following decimals in ascending order.

                            (a) 0.4, 0.6, 0.53 (b) 0.04, 1.04, 0.14 (c) 0.014, 0.8, 0.006
                           (d) 7.162, 3.46, 19.9 (e) 0.38, 1.65, 0.048 (f) 8.49, 8.142, 8.497

                      5. Arrange the following decimals in descending order.
                            (a) 0.25, 0.53, 0.56 (b) 0.18, 0.77, 2.05 (c) 0.642, 0.426, 0.204
                           (d) 0.67, 0.26, 0.76 (e) 3.48, 3.8, 4.02 (f) 7.16, 7.61, 6.71

                    Addition and Subtraction of Decimals

Let’s understand addition and subtraction of decimals with the help of pictures.
                           0.2 0.6 0.9

                                        0.2 + 0.6 = 0.8 0.9 – 0.2 = 0.7
                                                                                                          0.2
Addition and subtraction of decimals is done in the same way as for whole numbers.
To add or subtract decimal numbers, we follow the given steps.
                     • Convert unlike decimals to like decimals.
                     • Place the decimal numbers according to their place values vertically in a column where the
decimal points lie in a straight vertical line.

                     • Add or subtract the numbers as we do for whole numbers by starting from the extreme
right and then proceeding towards the left.
                                                                                                                         93
