Concept of Remainder

Remainder is the number which is le when the divisor does not divide the dividend

completely.

Example 5: Divide 15 by 2.

So, on dividing 15 by 2, we obtain 1 as the remainder.

Checking Division Mental Maths
Divide mentally and fill in the blanks.
We can check division by using the following

Dividend = (Divisor × Quo ent) + Remainder
(d) 100  10 _______

Example 6: Divide 93 by 2 and check your answer.

2 93 Check: 93 ÷ 2 = 46, remainder = 1

= (2 × 46) + 1 = 92 + 1 = 93

So, the division is correct.
