Learning Outcomes

We know that division means distribu ng equal quan es in equal groups. It is denoted by
the symbol ÷. The number to be divided is the dividend. The number by which we divide is
the divisor. The answer we get is the quo ent.
We have already learnt division using various ways in the previous class. Let’s revise and
learn some more about division in this class.
Division by Equal Sharing and Equal Grouping
In division by equal sharing and equal grouping, we either fi nd the number of groups or the
number to be put in each group to divide the given quan ty equally.
Example 1: Kinjal wants to treat 3 of her friends on her birthday. She brings 12 pastries
from her house and gives them equally to all her friends. How many pastries
will each friend get?
