                     Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to learn:
 division by sharing and grouping, repeated subtraction and by drawing dots.
 division by a single digit number.
 division facts and relationship with multiplication facts.
 to solve word problems based on division.

We know that division means distribu ng equal quan es in equal groups. It is denoted by

the symbol ÷. The number to be divided is the dividend. The number by which we divide is
the divisor. The answer we get is the quo ent.
We have already learnt division using various ways in the previous class. Let’s revise and
learn some more about division in this class.

Division by Equal Sharing and Equal Grouping

In division by equal sharing and equal grouping, we either fi nd the number of groups or the
number to be put in each group to divide the given quan ty equally.
Example 1: Kinjal wants to treat 3 of her friends on her birthday. She brings 12 pastries
from her house and gives them equally to all her friends. How many pastries
                                  will each friend get?

Solu on: Kinjal starts giving the pastries as shown.

                                  First she gives one
                                  pastry to each friend.

                                  Then she gives one
                                  more pastry to each
                                  friend.

                                  She gives another one
                                  pastry to each friend.

Kinjal s ll has some pastries le .
