Constructing Multiplication Tables by Repeated Addition
If the same number is repeatedly added a certain number of mes, we can
write it in the form of mul plica on and construct a table.
Let’s learn how to construct the table of 2 using repeated addi on.
1 + 1 = 2 or 2 ones are 2 or 2 × 1 = 2
2 + 2 = 4 or 2 twos are 4 or 2 × 2 = 4
3 + 3 = 6 or 2 threes are 6 or 2 × 3 = 6
4 + 4 = 8 or 2 fours are 8 or 2 × 4 = 8
5 + 5 = 10 or 2 fi ves are 10 or 2 × 5 = 10
6 + 6 = 12 or 2 sixes are 12 or 2 × 6 = 12
7 + 7 = 14 or 2 sevens are 14 or 2 × 7 = 14
8 + 8 = 16 or 2 eights are 16 or 2 × 8 = 16
9 + 9 = 18 or 2 nines are 18 or 2 × 9 = 18
10 + 10 = 20 or 2 tens are 20 or 2 × 10 = 20
Similarly, we can construct the table of 3 using the method of repeated addi on.
1 + 1 + 1 = 3 or 3 ones are 3 or 3 × 1 = 3
2 + 2 + 2 = 6 or 3 twos are 6 or 3 × 2 = 6
3 + 3 + 3 = 9 or 3 threes are 9 or 3 × 3 = 9
4 + 4 + 4 = 12 or 3 fours are 12 or 3 × 4 = 12
5 + 5 + 5 = 15 or 3 fi ves are 15 or 3 × 5 = 15
6 + 6 + 6 = 18 or 3 sixes are 18 or 3 × 6 = 18
7 + 7 + 7 = 21 or 3 sevens are 21 or 3 × 7 = 21
8 + 8 + 8 = 24 or 3 eights are 24 or 3 × 8 = 24
9 + 9 + 9 = 27 or 3 nines are 27 or 3 × 9 = 27
10 + 10 + 10 = 30 or 3 tens are 30 or 3 × 10 = 30
We can construct table of any number using the repeated addi on method.
