Steps of Construction: X Y
1. Draw line CU = 6.4 cm.
C 6.4 cm U
2. At points C and U on line CU, draw 90º 90º
–UCX and –CUY each equal to 90º using
a protractor (or compass). C 6.4 cm U
X Y
E 6.4 cm B
90º 90º
6.4 cm 6.4 cm
3. Taking U as centre and radius = 6.4 cm, 90º
draw an arc on line UY intersecting it at B.
Also taking C as centre and radius = 6.4 cm, C 6.4 cm U
draw an arc on line CX intersecting it at E.
Join BE.
Hence, CUBE is the required square.

Example 12: Construct a rectangle DROP in which DR = 6 cm
and diagonal DO = 7.4 cm.
Solution: Construction: Draw a rough sketch of the 7.4 cm
figure to be constructed.
90º
Note: In a rectangle, all angles are of 90º
and opposite sides are equal. D 6 cm R
Steps of Construction:
1. Draw a line DR = 6 cm. X Y
D 6 cm R
2. At points D and R, make –RDX = –DRY = 90º
using a protractor (or compass).
