Addition of Rupees and Paise

To add rupees and paise, we make two columns and write rupees in one column and paise
in the other. Then we add them like any other number.
Example 5: Add ` 2.40 and ` 3.50.

Solution: Step 1: Add the paise. ` p

40 + 50 = 90 2 40
Step 2: Add the rupees. + 3 50

2 + 3 = 5 5 90
So, ` 2 and 40 p + ` 3 and 50 p = ` 5 and 90 p = ` 5.90.

Top Tip

We can also add by putting a dot between rupees ` 2.40
and paise as shown. + ` 3.50
But the dots must be placed one below the other. ` 5.90
