Example 15: Subtract ` 2,963.86 from ` 5,048.25.
                    Solution: ` p
                                        9 11
                                     4 10 14 7 1 15
                                     5 0 4 8 . 2 5
                                  – 2 9 6 3 . 8 6
                                     2 0 8 4 . 3 9

                                  So, ` 5,048.25 – ` 2,963.86 = ` 2,084.39.

                    Multiplication and Division of Money

We multiply and divide money as we multiply and divide decimal numbers. Let’s learn to multiply
and divide larger amounts of money by 1-digit and 2-digit numbers.
                    Example 16: Multiply ` 3,165.45 by 15.
                                                                                                              3 2 2 2
                    Solution: Multiply numbers by ignoring the decimal point. 3 1 6 5 4 5
                                  316545 × 15 = 4748175 × 1 5
                                                                                                           1 1
                                  Place the decimal point 2 digits from the right since the 1 5 8 2 7 2 5
multiplicand ` 3,165.45 has two decimal places.
                                                                                                       + 3 1 6 5 4 5 0
                                  So, ` 3,165.45 × 15 = ` 47,481.75.
                                                                                                         4 7 4 8 1 7 5

                    Example 17: Divide ` 2,409.30 by 18. 1 3 3 . 8 5

                    Solution: Step 1: Place the decimal point of the quotient just 18 2 4 0 9 . 3 0
above the decimal point of the dividend. – 1 8 
                                                                                                          6 0
Step 2: Now divide like whole numbers.
                                                                                                       – 5 4
                                            So, ` 2,409.30  18 = ` 133.85. 6 9
                                                                                                           – 5 4
                                                                                                             1 5 3
                                                                                                            – 1 4 4
                                                                                                                   9 0
                                                                                                               – 9 0
                                                                                                                     0

Example 18: Richa purchased 5 bottles of juice and 6 packets of biscuits. The cost of 1 bottle of
juice is ` 21.25 and 1 packet of biscuits is ` 9.55. How much did Richa pay in all?

Solution: Cost of 1 bottle of juice = ` 21.25
                                   Cost of 5 bottles of juice = ` 21.25  5 = ` 106.25 Calculation

                                  Cost of 1 packet of biscuits = ` 9.55 1
                                                                                                           1 0 6 . 2 5
                                   Cost of 6 packets of biscuits = ` 9.55  6 = ` 57.30 + 5 7 . 3 0

                                  Money paid by Richa = ` 106.25 + ` 57.30 = ` 163.55 1 6 3 . 5 5
So, Richa paid ` 163.55 in all.
