Non-green plants
There are some non-green plants like mushrooms, moulds and
Indian pipe that lack chlorophyll. Since these plants cannot
perform photosynthesis, they absorb nutrients from other
sources.

1. Terrestrial plants: Plants growing on land
2. Deciduous trees: Trees that shed their leaves once in a year
3. Evergreen trees: Trees that appear green throughout the year
4. Desert: Dry and sandy area, with little rainfall and very less plants
5. Marshy area/Swamp: An area which is always wet or fl ooded
6. Coastal area: The area near the sea
7. Aquatic plants: Plants growing in water

2. Plants can be divided into two types on the basis of their habitats—terrestrial and aquatic
plants.

4. Plants that grow on land are called terrestrial plants. They are adapted to live in a variety of
places like the plains, deserts, hills, marshy places and coastal areas.
5. Plants that grow in water are called aquatic plants. These are further distinguished into
three types—fl oating, fi xed and underwater plants.
6. Some plants, like venus fl ytrap and pitcher plant, eat insects and are called insectivorous
plants.
7. Some plants, like mushrooms, moulds and Indian pipe, are non-green plants as they do not
have chlorophyll. They cannot make their own food and absorb it from other sources.
