1. Teeth are important to us as they help us to chew the food and speak clearly, and also give
a good look to our face.
2. We have two sets of teeth—temporary and permanent teeth.
3. Temporary teeth start coming out six to seven months after the birth. There are twenty
temporary teeth. They start to fall when we are six to seven years old.
4. Permanent teeth replace the temporary teeth. There are thirty-two permanent teeth in our
mouth.
5. Permanent teeth are divided into four kinds on the basis of their functions. They are incisors,
canines, premolars and molars.
6. All teeth have the same basic structure. A tooth may be divided into two parts—crown and
root.
7. Taking care of the teeth is very important, otherwise we may have to face various dental
problems.
8. Some ways of taking care of teeth and gums are brushing, fl ossing and eating a balanced
diet.
