•   It is important to visit your dentist regularly for dental
                        check-ups.  This may help you to detect any problem
                        related to your teeth and gums. Get the dental treatment

                        done, if needed.

                    •   Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and calcium-rich food like
                        green leafy vegetables, yogurt and other milk products to

                        make your teeth strong. These are healthy and essential
                        for good dental health.                                                 Regular dental check-ups

                    •   Avoid taking soft drinks and food that contain high amount

                        of sugar, like sweets, chocolates and pastries. These types
                        of food produce acid in the mouth which can damage the
                        teeth.

                          Thus, eat a balanced diet to keep your teeth and gums

                        TERMS TO KNOW

                         1.  Temporary teeth: Also called milk teeth, fi rst set of teeth that starts appearing from the
                            age of 6 months in a child

                         2.  Permanent teeth: Also called adult teeth, starts appearing in place of temporary teeth
                            from the age of 6 or 7 years

                         3.  Incisors: Front fl at teeth having sharp edges
                         4.  Canines: Placed next to incisors, they are sharp and pointed teeth

                         5.  Premolars: Flat and broad teeth, located next to the canines

                         6.  Molars: Bigger and wider teeth having ridges, located next to the premolars
                         7.  Crown: Visible part of a tooth

                         8.  Root: Part of a tooth inside the gums
                         9.  Enamel: White and shiny outermost layer, which covers the crown

                         10.  Dentine: Hard yellow substance under the enamel

                         11.  Pulp: Central soft part of tooth
                         12.  Gums: Soft tissue, surrounding the teeth and holding it fi rmly in its place

                         13.  Plaque: A sticky yellow coating on teeth formed due to the growth of germs
