Forms of carbohydrates Foods in which they are present
Sugar Fruits and milk
Cereals, potatoes, and other grain products like bread, oatmeal

People like athletes and labourers, who do a lot of physical activity, require more
carbohydrates for extra energy.
Fats
Fats act as fuels and give us more energy than
carbohydrates. They also help to keep our body
warm. Food rich in fats is also called energy giving
food. Oils, nuts, butter and meat are some rich
sources of fats.
Our body needs a very little amount of fat. Thus,
the extra fat is stored in our body for future use.
Too much intake of fat is not good for our health.
Some fat-rich food items
This can make us fat and lead to a condition called
obesity.
Proteins
Proteins are needed for building muscles, and for
growth and repair of our body. Food rich in proteins
is also called bodybuilding food. Fish, eggs, meat,
cheese, pulses and beans are good sources of protein.

Vitamins and minerals
Vitamins help in protecting our body from diseases, and minerals help in the formation
of bones, blood and teeth. Thus, they are also known as protective foods. Fresh fruits,
