Example 15: Surbhi is carrying 4 kg 400 g rice, 3 kg 20 g wheat and 6 kg 850 g sugar. Find the total
                                  weight that she is carrying.
                                                                           400
                    Solution: Quantity of rice = 4 kg 400 g = 4 kg + kg
                                                                          1000
                                                   = 4.400 kg
                                                                            20
                                  Quantity of wheat = 3 kg 20 g = 3 kg + kg
                                                                           1000
                                                     = 3.020 kg
                                                                            850
                                  Quantity of sugar = 6 kg 850 g = 6 kg + kg 4.400 kg
                                                                            1000
                                                    = 6.850 kg 3.020 kg
                                                                                                            + 6.850 kg
Total weight that she is carrying = 4.400 kg + 3.020 kg + 6.850 kg
                                                                                                             14.270 kg
                                                               = 14.270 kg
Example 16: Chandni has 30 m 5 cm long cloth. She cut 4 m 50 cm length of cloth from this to make
a suit. How much cloth is left with her?
                                                                                    5
                    Solution: Total cloth Chandni has = 30 m 5 cm = 30 m + m = 30.05 m
                                                                                  100 30.05 m
                                                                           50 – 4.50 m
                                  Cloth cut for suit = 4 m 50 cm = 4 m + m = 4.50 m
                                                                          100 25.55 m
                                  Cloth left with her = 30.05 m – 4.50 m = 25.55 m

Example 17: John went to the market with ` 500. He ate food costing ` 112.80. He purchased a book
for ` 83.25 and on his way back took a rickshaw for which he paid ` 8. Find the amount
                                  left with him.

                    Solution: Cost of food = ` 112.80 ` 112.80
                                                                                       ` 83.25
                                                Cost of book = ` 83.25
                                                                                     + ` 8.00
                                    Money paid for rickshaw = ` 8.00 ` 204.05 ` 500.00

                                                   Total cost = ` 204.05 – ` 204.05
                                                                                                             ` 295.95
                                    ∴ Money left with John = ` 500.00 – ` 204.05 = ` 295.95

                                                              EXERCISE 6.2

                      1. Add the following.

                        (a) 0.62 and 1.561 (b) 22.501, 0.001 and 7.452
