Patterns with Rules
Patterns in an ordered set of numbers, shapes, objects, etc., are arranged according to a
rule or rules. A rule is a set way to calculate or solve a problem.
Number Patterns
In number patterns, we arrange numbers according to rules.
There are different ways to identify the pattern rule or rules. Some of them are as follows.
• Use a number line to find the distance between the numbers.
• Look at the first few numbers to see if they repeat in a special way.
• Find the difference between the first few numbers.
A number pattern can have more than one rule in a single arrangement. In this class, we
will deal with number patterns formed with only one rule. To do so, we need to observe
at least the first three numbers in the series.
