             Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to learn:

                    • patterns with unit of repeat.
                    • extension of pattern using some rule.

Patterns are arrangements, series or sequences that repeat following a rule
or set of rules. They may be formed using designs, figures, letters, objects or
numbers. You can see patterns on dresses, bedsheets, doors, walls and even
            in series of numbers.

            Patterns with Unit of Repeat
            Observe the given patterns.

In this, the colour pattern ‘red blue green’ is repeated.

In this, the shape pattern ‘three circles followed by a square’ is repeated.

AA BB AA BB AA BB

In this, the letter pattern ‘AA BB’ is repeated.

                                   5 3 1 5 3 1 5 3 1

In this, the number pattern ‘5 3 1’ is repeated.
                                                                                         Top Tip
Observe that all these patterns are made by repeating For a number line, the unit
a unit or a part of the pattern. This part or unit is called of repeat is the line segment
a unit of repeat or core. In the above examples, red between two marks.
blue and green, three circles followed by a square, AA
            BB and 5 3 1 are the units of repeat. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
We can find if an arrangement is forming a pattern or not
by identifying the unit of repeat in it.
