Calendar
We have seen different kinds of calendars in the market like wall calendars, desk calendars,
etc. They may look different but contain the same information.
• There are 7 days in a week. They are
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• There are 52 weeks and 1 day in a year.
• There are 365 days in a year.
• There are 12 months in a year. They are
January, February, March, April, May,
June, July, August, September, October,
November and December. Each month
has four weeks and a few days.
• We need the day, month and year to write
a date. The most common way of writing
a date follows the pattern—day, month
and year. For example, 7 November 2017,
7.11.2017, 7.11.17, 7/11/2017 and 7/11/17.
Leap Year
A year in which February has 29 days instead of 28 days is called a leap year. It occurs
every four years. For example, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 were leap years.
Thus, we can say that a leap year has 52 weeks and 2 days, i.e., 366 days with February
having 29 days.
