Let’s Do
Classroom Session
1. Chances are that every student in your classroom knows someone, family or friends, who
have moved away. In a group of five, brainstorm all the people you know who have moved,
and discover their reasons for moving. As a group, list diff erent reasons to why people move.
Have a discussion with the whole class about what motivates people to migrate. Now re-
member that animals also migrate for their needs. Do people migrate for the same reasons as
animals? Can the class come up with some similarities and diff erences between human and
animal needs?
2. Analyse the cartoon given below and then answer the questions that follow. Be prepared to
share your answers/opinions with the class.
• Describe what you fi nd on the poster.
• Describe the emotional state of the character in the cartoon. Why do you think he feels
this way?
• In which country do you believe this character lives? Explain why you selected that
country.
Put yourself in the shoes of the character in the cartoon and complete the following sentence.
If I were the character in the cartoon, I would...
Do It Yourself
Imagine that your family has decided to move to a new country. Choose any developed country
that you like. Write a diary entry for the day before you are about to leave. Make up details that
reveal your feelings about the move—positive and negative. You should also write some of your
ideas about why this is either a place your family is eager to go to or one they wish they weren’t
going to.
Think and Do
Given below are four diff erent people who have migrated for their own reasons. Read about each
of them carefully. Using the table given below, make a similar table for each person according
to their reason for migration, for example political, environmental, and so on and write the push
and pull factors.
