The highlighted words are examples of compound words. Compound words are formed
when two or more words come together to form a new word with a new meaning. There
are three kinds of compound words.
• A closed compound word is written as one word without a space or hyphen between
the words it is made of.

• Open compound words are written as two words with a space in between but are read
together to get the meaning.

• Hyphenated compound words have a hyphen between the words they are made of.
