Listening

Listen to a story. As you listen, jot down important points in the plot. Then try to

write the story in your notebook. Listen to the story again to check if you have
missed out any details.

Speaking

Imagine you are a newspaper reporter. You are covering the news of Pakhom’s
death. You have to interview a few people who witnessed Pakhom’s death – the
village elder, Pakhom’s servant, etc. Work in groups of fi ve students each and
prepare the ques ons and responses. Then role-play the interviews in class.

Writing

The words ambiƟ ous and greedy are used synonymously in the story ‘How Much
Land Does a Man Need?’ However, it is important to have ambi ons in life and work
towards fulfi lling them. What do you think is the diff erence between ambi on
and greed? Write a few lines in your notebook.

Activity

Leo Tolstoy wrote several other short stories. Read some more of his stories. Select
two stories you liked the most and write a few lines on what you liked about each
of them in your notebook.
