Appreciation
Read the following lines from the poem.
Little lamb, who made thee?
Dost thou know who made thee?
In this poem, the speaker asks the lamb a few questions but does not expect an answer
from it. Such questions are only introduced for the effect. They are frequently used by
public speakers in their speeches. If you read or listen to speeches made by famous people,
you will find many such examples.
Read the following excerpt from a speech by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
‘Why are we, as a nation, so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign TVs, we
want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this obsession with everything
imported? Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance?’
Here, Dr Kalam asks the questions to his audience but does not expect an answer from
them.
A. Pick an animal of your choice. Think of ques ons you could ask it. Now
compose a song or a small poem with those ques ons.
B. Prepare a speech for any upcoming event in your school using ques ons for
eff ect.
