Characteristics of Cloud Computing
On-Demand
Self-Service
Cloud computing has the following characteristics.
On-Demand Self-Service
Measured Broad
The services and resources of a cloud can be used on- Service Network

demand, without requiring human interaction with Cloud
each service provider. The cloud service can be used in
the same way as the Internet service and the payment
is done as per the usage.
Rapid Resource
Resource Pooling Elasticity Pooling
The resources like storage, processing, memory and network bandwidth are pooled to serve
multiple consumers. The user has no control or knowledge over the exact location of the
resources provided.
Broad Network Access
The services provided by cloud computing can be accessed on the Internet anytime and
anywhere in the world through devices like mobile phones, and laptops.
Rapid Elasticity
Cloud computing is enabled with elasticity feature and users can transparently increase or
decrease resources according to their needs.
Measured Service
Resource usage can be monitored, controlled and reported, for both the provider and the
consumer of the service. Cloud computing is based on the pay-for-what-you-use mode.
Types of Clouds
There are four types of clouds available.
Public Cloud
In public cloud, the resources are made available to the public over Internet. It is inexpensive
and independent of location.
Private Cloud
In private cloud, a cloud is maintained to be used by a PRIVATE CLOUD
(Internal or External)
single organisation. It provides a secure cloud-based
environment and is more fl exible. COMMUNITY CLOUD
(Internal By Member or
Community Cloud HYBRID CLOUD External)
In community cloud, private clouds are combined
together and built specifi cally for various communities
having common concern. PUBLIC CLOUD
