Video Conferencing
Video conferencing has completely changed
the atmosphere of a modern offi ce. With video
conferencing systems, the participants not
only hear the voice but also see each other.
The communication takes place either in one-
way or multi-way modes. In one-way mode,
which is also known as point-to-point video
conferencing, one of the locations sends the
information and others receive it. In multi-way
mode, which is also known as multi-point video conferencing, two or more locations can send
or receive the information simultaneously.
The process of video conferencing involves some basic steps which are as follows.
• During video conferencing, a video camera installed in the sending device continuously
captures pictures of the person, which are then converted into compressed digital video
signals.
• The compressed digital video signals are sent through a transmission medium to the
receiving devices, which are a part of the video conferencing system.
• The process is reversed and the video signals are decompressed at the receiver’s end.
• The decompressed video signals are continuously displayed as pictures on output device
(such as monitor).
