P. 122
For example, 5 mm = 5 m = 0.005 m
1000
7 mg = 7 dg = 0.07 dg
100
Try This!
Example 10: Convert 8 hm 65 dm to hectometres.
Solution: 8 hm 65 dm = 8 hm + 65 dm Convert 23 km 7 m to
kilometres.
65 dm = 65 × 1 hm = 65 hm
1000 1000
= 0.065 hm
So, 8 hm 65 dm = 8 hm + 0.065 hm = 8.065 hm.
Example 11: Convert 12 kg 185 g to kilograms.
Solution: 12 kg 185 g = 12 kg + 185 kg
1000
= 12 kg + 0.185 kg = 12.185 kg
Example 12: Convert 9 L 62 mL to litres. A Challenge!
Solution: 9 L 62 mL = 9 L + 62 L Convert 2 kL 15 daL to
1000 125 L to kL.
= 9 L + 0.062 L = 9.062 L
EXERCISE 8.1
1. Convert the following metric measures.
(a) 4 dam to cm (b) 13 km to dm (c) 7 g to mg
(d) 22 hg to g (e) 36 L to cL (f) 9 daL to dL
(g) 4 dm to hm (h) 2500 cm to m (i) 750 cg to g
(j) 18 dg to kg (k) 7800 mL to L (l) 99 dL to kL
(m) 15 km 8 m to m (n) 11 dam 25 cm to cm (o) 3 hg 106 g to dg
(p) 19 kg 4 dag to dag (q) 52 hL 45 dL to dL (r) 26 L 375 mL to mL
2. Convert and express your answer in decimals.
(a) 38 dam 46 cm to dam (b) 8 hm 350 dm to hm (c) 17 dg 6 mg to dg
(d) 23 dag 96 cg to dag (e) 30 dL 5 mL to dL (f) 16 kL 35 L to L
Addition and Subtraction of Metric Measures
In the previous class, we have learnt to add and subtract metric measures. Let’s revise them
quickly.
