P. 121
Example 4: Convert 4 hg to dg.
Solution: 4 hg = 4 × 10 × 10 × 10 dg hg × 10 dag × 10 g × 10 dg
= 4 × 1,000 dg = 4,000 dg
Example 5: Convert 5 mg to dg.
Solution: 5 mg = 5 × 1 × 1 dg dg cg mg

Example 6: Convert 11 dag 250 g to grams. A Challenge!
Solution: 11 dag 250 g = 11 dag + 250 g Convert the following.
= 11 × 10 g + 250 g (a) 16 dag 8 g to cg
= 110 g + 250 g = 360 g (b) 5 dg 20 cg to hg
Capacity
The standard unit of capacity is litre (L).
Look at the table given below to learn how to change bigger units to smaller units and vice
versa.
× 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10
kilolitre hectolitre decalitre LITRE decilitre centilitre millilitre
(kL) (hL) (daL) (L) (dL) (cL) (mL)
× 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 1 × 1
10 10 10 10 10 10
Example 7: Convert 2 hL to litre.
Solution: 2 hL = 2 × 10 × 10 L × 10 × 10
= 2 × 100 L = 200 L hL daL L
Example 8: Convert 7 cL to daL.
Solution: 7 cL = 7 × 1 × 1 × 1 dL daL L dL cL
10 10 10 × 1 × 1 × 1
= 7 × 1 daL = 7 daL 10 10 10

Example 9: Convert 42 dL 6 mL to millilitres.
A Challenge!
Solution: 42 dL 6 mL = 42 dL + 6 mL Convert 12 hL 15 L
= 42 × 100 mL + 6 mL to millilitre.
= 4,200 mL + 6 mL = 4,206 mL
Expressing Given Units of Measurements as Decimals
When we convert measures from smaller to bigger unit, we can express them in decimals.
