EXERCISE 8.3
1. Multiply the following metric measures.
(a) 48 km 16 m by 39 (b) 67 dam 15 cm by 26 (c) 19 g 92 mg by 18
(d) 33 kg 44 dag by 57 (e) 52 L 126 mL by 43 (f) 96 dL 26 mL by 74
2. Divide the following metric measures.
(a) 128 km 34 m by 18 (b) 74 m 12 cm by 16 (c) 67 kg 325 g by 25
(d) 341 g 695 mg by 37 (e) 38 L 454 mL by 65 (f) 292 hL 699 dL by 121
Word Problems
Example 22: Rishab cycles 3.5 km daily. How many metres does he cycle in a week?
Solution: In 1 day Rishab cycles 3.5 km
In a week (7 days), he cycles 7 × 3.5 km = 24.5 km
24.5 km = 24.5 × 1,000 m = 24,500 m
Working
So, Rishab cycles 24,500 m in a week.

Example 23: Kinjal buys 3 packets of chocolates weighing 750 g, 675 g and 7 5 0 g
940 g respectively. How many kilograms of chocolate does she 6 7 5 g
buy in all?
+ 9 4 0 g
Solution: Total weight of chocolates = 750 g + 675 g + 940 g = 2,365 g 2 3 6 5 g
2,365 g = 2365 kg = 2.365 kg
1000
So, Kinjal buys 2.365 kg of chocolates.
Example 24: Neha has a glass with a capacity of 125 mL. She puts 15 glasses Working
of juice in a jug. How many litres of juice does she put in it? 1 2
1 2 5
Solution: Quantity of juice in 1 glass = 125 mL
× 1 5
Quantity of juice in 15 glasses = 15 × 125 mL = 1,875 mL 6 2 5
1,875 mL = 1875 L = 1.875 L + 1 2 5 0
1000
So, Neha puts 1.875 L of juice in the jug. 1 8 7 5
