                                           Division

A sports teacher carries a bag having 12 balls
            to distribute among 4 players.

On giving 1 ball to each player, the teacher
is left with 8 balls. So, he gives 1 more ball

            to each player.
He still has 4 balls. So, he gives 1 more ball

            to each player.

                    Player 1 Player 2 Player 3 Player 4

The sports teacher has distributed all 12
balls equally to everyone. He has divided Remember
            12 balls into 4 groups of 3 balls each. This 12 ÷ 4 = 3

is called division. It is written as 12 ÷ 4 = The answer we get after dividing
3 and is read as twelve divided by four is two numbers is called quotient.
equal to three. 3 is the quotient in the given
                                                                     example.
Division is dividing a number into small
equal groups. It is denoted by the

            symbol ÷.
