(c) A milkman has 25 L of milk in a can. He distributes 21 L 500 mL of milk. How
much milk is le in the can?
                           (d) A can has a capacity of 5 L 500 mL and is full of petrol. Rashi takes out
2 L 750 mL of petrol from the can and again refi lls 1 L 250 mL of petrol in it.
How much petrol is le in the can?

                    Multiplication and Division of Capacities

We mul ply or divide the capaci es in the same way as we mul ply or divide the lengths
                    and weights.
                    Example 27: Mul ply 4 L 362 mL by 3.
                                                                                                         Calcula on
                    Solu on: 4 L 362 mL = (4 × 1,000) mL + 362 mL 1 1
                                                                                                         4 3 6 2
                                               = 4,000 mL + 362 mL = 4,362 mL
                                                                                                     × 3
Now mul ply 4,362 mL by 3.
                                                                                                     1 3 0 8 6
                                  4,362 mL × 3 = 13,086 mL
                                   13,086 mL = 13 L 86 mL

So, the product obtained is 13 L 86 mL. 4525
                                                                                                            5 22625
                    Example 28: Divide 22 L 625 mL by 5.
                                                                                                               –20
                    Solu on: 22 L 625 mL = (22 × 1,000) mL + 625 mL
                                                                                                                  26
                                    = 22,000 mL + 625 mL = 22,625 mL – 25
                                  Now divide 22,625 mL by 5. 12

                                  22,625 mL  5 = 4,525 mL – 10
                                                                                                                     25
                                   4,525 mL = 4 L 525 mL
                                                                                                               – 25
So, the quo ent obtained is 4 L 525 mL. 0

Example 29: A bo le contains 2 L 200 mL of cooking oil. How much quan ty of cooking oil
                                  will 6 bo les contain?

Solu on: Quan ty of cooking oil in the bo le = 1 L 200 mL Calcula on
                                                                                                       1
                                                                            = 1,200 mL 1 2 0 0
 Quan ty of cooking oil in 6 bo les × 6

                                  = 1,200 mL × 6 = 7,200 mL = 7 L 200 mL 7 2 0 0
So, 6 bo les will contain 7 L 200 mL of cooking oil.

Example 30: A box contains 4 bags of sugar. The total weight of all the 4
                                                                                                            Calcula on
bags of sugar is 12 kg. What is the weight of each bag of sugar?
                                                                                                                    3
Solu on: Weight of 4 bags of sugar = 12 kg. 4 12
                                   Weight of each bag = 12  4 = 3 kg – 12
                                                                                                                  0
So, the weight of each bag of sugar is 3 kg.
