                    Subtraction of whole numbers on a number line
                    We can subtract whole numbers on a number line.
                    Let’s subtract whole number 3 from 5.

                    Step 1:   Draw a number line as shown.

                    Step 2:   First move five units to the right of ‘0’ to reach at 5.

                    Step 3:   Now, move three units to the left from 5 to reach at 2.

                              Thus, 5 – 3 = 2

                    Multiplication of whole numbers on a number line
                    We can also multiply whole numbers using a number line.
                    Let’s multiply whole numbers 2 and 4.
                    Step 1:   Draw a number line as shown.

                    Example 1:  How many whole numbers are there between 33 and 53?

                    Solution:     Whole numbers between 33 and 53 are 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45,
                                  46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51 and 52.
                                  Therefore, there are 19 whole numbers between 33 and 53.

                    Example 2:  In each of the following pairs of numbers, state which whole number is on the left of
                                  the other number on the number line. Also, compare them using the appropriate sign
                                  ‘>’ or ‘<’.
                                  (a)  640; 604         (b)  567; 765        (c)  98,965; 56,789
