Writing
Eyewitness Account
The account of an incident given by a person who was present at the time is called an eyewitness
account.
Given below are some pointers for writing a good eyewitness account:
• An eyewitness report is written in the fi rst person.
• Use of language has to be as precise as possible.
• Inclusion of specifi c time and date is of vital importance.
• Include names of anyone who might have been present and who can support the account.
• Clear reconstruction of the events in their correct sequence is essential.
Read the following example for a better understanding of how to write an eyewitness account.
On the morning of 24 March 2019, at around six o’clock, I saw a car speeding just before the
Ring Road and Nice Road intersection. The driver of the vehicle skidded across the road into
the fence of the Golden Gardens complex at a high speed.
Some residents of the complex, who were roused by the noise of the vehicle hitting the fence,
emerged from their houses to fi nd the vehicle still running. The driver was semi-conscious.
Along with another onlooker, I was successful in gaining entry to the vehicle to help the driver.
We could just pull out his body before the car went up in fl ames. The driver escaped with
minor injuries. An ambulance was called and he was bundled into it.
As the Santhal, write an eyewitness account of Bhola Grandpa’s encounter with the tiger and
what happened thereafter.
