Read the following sentences.

Grandfather had a little cottage outside the town.

In February it was Rakesh’s birthday.

In the first sentence, the word outside tells us where the cottage is situated. It is thus a
preposition of place. Other prepositions of place are: above, below, under, in, over, beside, down,
near, in front of, around, behind, etc.

The word in in the second sentence tells us when Rakesh’s birthday was. It is thus a
preposition of time. Other prepositions of time are: at, on, in, during, before, after, etc.
