Phrasal Verbs
Read the following sentences.
Grandfather went after the woman and scolded her.
By the time summer came round again, the cherry tree had several leaves.
The expressions went after and came round are examples of phrasal verbs.
A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and a particle (usually a preposition or an
adverb). The meanings of phrasal verbs are often different from those of the individual
words in them.
