                    To say that something was not happening at a particular point of time in the past, we add
                    not between was/were and the -ing form of the main verb.

                       Mohan was not/wasn’t crying when I came in.

                       No, we were not/weren’t eating dinner at 8:00 o’clock.


                     B.   Rewrite the following sentences in the past con  nuous tense using the verbs
                           given in brackets.


                            1.  The children (freeze) from the cold.

                            2.  The stove (not burn) properly before we fixed it.

                            3.  The children (jump) with joy.


                            4.  The cat (not eat) very well for the past few days.

                            5.  Newton (read) a book when an apple fell on his head.

                            6.  It (not rain) when I arrived.


                    Ques  ons in the past con  nuous tense


                    The order of words in questions in the past continuous tense is like this:

                          Was/Were + subject + -ing form of the main verb + other parts of the sentence

                     Was      the baby                  crying                   loudly when the show began?
                     Were     Hakim and Sanjay          playing                  tennis at 4:00 o’clock last evening?
