                           Grammar

                    Simple Present Tense

                    Read the following sentences.

My mother makes small paper animals.

Revathi paints beautiful pictures and practises origami as a hobby.

The highlighted verbs in these sentences are in the simple present tense. The simple present
tense tells us about actions done regularly as a habit. The simple present tense is also used
to talk about things that are always true. For example:

                       The earth is round.
The sun rises in the east.

Sentences in the simple present tense are in the following pattern:

subject + present tense form of the verb + other elements in the sentence

subject present tense form of the verb rest of the sentence

                     Revathi is an artist.

                     Taher asks Revathi about origami.

Revathi’s father asks everyone to have lunch.
